Provincials Wrap Up
Another exciting update on the team as we go into Tour de Beauce and National Championships this next couple of weeks
Provincial Championships in B.C. just took place . Happy to say we came out with 3 Championship jerseys, a silver and a bronze with only 3 athletes competing.
Sidney continues creating legendary status. As the number 1 ranked u19 rider in the World, she requested that she race in the senior elite womens race and not the junior race. She wanted to be compared by ability and not by age.
She was granted the opportunity and went in with the attitude she would focus on taking the title.
Sidney broke away early on and was solo for almost half the race. There was a concerted effort from the other teams, unlike Sid who had no team mates..had considerable numbers. They chased her down eventually. But Sidney attacked them again shortly afterwards and took it to the line solo for the win.
Because, at 17 years old , Sidney is TWO age categories out of senior. She was awarded the u23 jersey but she is the winner of the elite race overall!
The mens elite race was equally charged by TaG. Nathan Pruner made multiple attempts to break away . He was able to create a number of significant small break groups, but as the strongest and heavily marked rider he found little support and attempts to work with him from the other teams.
He finally made a break of 7 stick and was able to attack early in the sprint and hold them off for the victory.
Campbell Parrish rode really well on a course that was very unsuited to the big time trial specialist. Campbell came away with the bronze for u23.
Sidney won a second title for the time trial and Campbell a silver in the time trial after making a wrong turn that took him off a minute lead. Campbell settled for silver in the TT.
All in all..close to as good as we could have hoped for. The team doesn’t race locally often, and it is difficult to be so heavily marked and still take the wins.
On to Tour de Beauce for the men and then chasing titles at Nationals for the whole team!
