Canadian Nationals – 2 Titles & 5 Podiums!

We went into Nationals with a very realistic goal of at least a Championship title and 3 total podium finishes

Exceeding that goal was the ultimate outcome, and we did just that!

All in all we far exceeded the on paper results goal to win 2 National Titles and a total of 5 podium finishes.!

Opening the score was Sidney Swierenga decisively winning the Junior Womens Time Trial Championship. This was the one we would have bet on, but you never like to jinx the results. The point in this is that it once again shows that Sidney can deliver magnificently under pressure. Being the favourite sometime does affect an athlete and coming through repeatedly on a given day is the true sign of a champion!

In the u23 womens race we were thrilled with a silver medal by Mairen Lawson. This result put the first year cyclist firmly on top of the National hopefuls.

Carson Mattern followed up winning the title for u23 men! That we were hopeful for and knew it was possible, but he came through brilliantly with the goods. Campbell Parrish posted a blazing time also and would secure the bronze.

As a show of strength in the team, 19 year old  Albert Taylor was 4th, 20 year old Sasha Renaud Tremblay was 7th and 20 year old Ethan Powell was 9th. 5 riders from TaG in the top 10!!

Sidney went to the line for the Junior womens road race and fought an incredible battle. She had to settle for 2nd place when it came to a sprint. Sidney is never “satisfied” with anything but a win, but she rode her heart out and accepted she was silver on the day and the course.

The World Tour guys decimated the field in the elite mens road race with u23. Derek Gee put on a memorable performance. Carson Mattern had the highest placing at 14th in a race that was quite shattered. Nathan Pruner and Reid Kinniburgh both finished top 25 in a race that saw 36 finishers out of 121 starters.
